Create your Own
This lesson will consist of solving mathematical problems using comic books or graphic novels. It may seem odd but the use of comic books in a math class is very useful and engaging for the students. The students’ jobs will be to create their own comic book using either a website provided or one-page layout handed to them. They will choose between a word problem and attempt to recreate it using the comics. They will add more to the problem by making up a scenario using the problem. Students will only be graded on how well they have solved the problem and not on their artistic ability. They will need to provide an equation, the formula used and their own equation solved.
Students will be able to:
· Recreate a word problem to help them imagine the problem
· Learn to set up an equation from a word problem
· Know the different formulas taught in class
· Solve for word problems given to them
